University of Ottawa Gee-Gees — Track & Field / Cross Country

Operated in partnership with the Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club. Entering year 18, the Gee-Gees have amassed 55 USPORTS medals — including 22 national titles.

Reduce Your Fees

Payment, Refunds & Admin
  • Complete online registration + uOttawa admin forms shared by the Head Coach.
  • Installments may be arranged with the Head Coach (credit card or post-dated cheques).
  • Academic-year memberships must be fully paid by Jan 1, 2026.
  • Refunds within 14 days of registration; $50 administration fee applies.
Uniforms (Competitive Kit & Team Package)
  • Returning competitive kit (singlet & shorts): $100.
  • Speed suit: Women $105, Men $120 (optional personal purchase).
  • New athletes: one-time team package — backpack, T-shirts, warm-up jacket & pants: $250.
  • Replacement costs: Singlet $65, Shorts $45, Jacket $100, Pants $65, Backpack $65, T-shirt $20.

Varsity Benefits & Eligibility

Team-standard athletes (see Standards below) may receive added support based on performance, rankings, commitment, and academics, as determined by the Head Coach. Benefits can include:

  • IST services (medical, physio, mental performance)
  • Access to the uOttawa Varsity High Performance Centre (Montpetit Hall)
  • Full support for regular-season away travel
  • Full travel support for OUA/USPORTS selections
  • USPORTS credits: $200 for qualifiers; $500 for individual medal; $100 for relay medal (applied to future registrations/training camps)
  • Some bursaries/scholarships based on performance & GPA (per uOttawa admissions)
Conditions of Registration
  • Be a paid member in good standing and complete all uOttawa & USPORTS eligibility steps (student portal, medical, CCES, USPORTS Portal, orientations).
  • Home events are mandatory (compete or volunteer); absences require Head Coach approval.
  • Meet entry deadlines; pay assessed travel fees before departure.
  • Compete in the current team singlet; “no-show/scratch” fees must be reimbursed unless medically/academically justified.
  • Travel cancellations: athlete is responsible for full trip & accommodation costs once confirmed.

Season Start & Selection Process

Cross Country — September Start
  • Thu Sep 4: Distance/Mid-D Team Run — Lansdowne Park (5:00pm, east entry of Aberdeen Pavilion)
  • Fri Sep 5: Team Meeting on campus (room TBA, 5:00pm)
  • Sat Sep 6: Practice — Terry Fox (9:00am)
  • Sun Sep 7: Team Meeting (room TBA, 11:00am) — for those who missed Fri
  • Mon Sep 8: Practice — Terry Fox (4:30pm)
  • Declare XC participation by Sep 11; complete all eligibility steps.

OUA Team Selection: up to 7 per gender based on consistency, progression, health, race results, head-to-head, and commitment.

USPORTS: OUA team members may qualify via team placing (top-5) or individually (top-30 considered; top-14 auto).

Track & Field — Indoor Campaign
  • Fri Sep 5: Team Meeting on campus (room TBA, 5:00pm)
  • Sat Sep 6: Practice — Terry Fox (10:30am)
  • Sun Sep 7: Team Meeting (room TBA, 11:00am) — for those who missed Fri
  • Mon Sep 8: Practice — Terry Fox (5:30pm)
  • Declare indoor participation by Dec 8 and complete all forms.

Dec–Feb: more competition opportunities = stronger selection case. Rankings, head-to-head, practice consistency, relay skills/splits on 200m tracks, and event depth all factor into OUA nominations. Injured athletes are not named.

USPORTS qualification: auto standard, top-12 ranking after conference champs, or 1st/2nd at OUA. Final selections by the Head Coach (with coach consultation as needed).
